Working in Cromwell

Hallo readers,

Today I give you some information about Cromwell, the small town I actually living and working in. I already told you that I do pruning on fruit trees like peaches, apricots, plums and apples. The first week was quit hard to get used to the work because you have to reach a surtain amount of trees to be pruned every day to get the minimum wage of money. The payment per tree depends on the tree size and varied between 4,40 and 6 $NZ. On the best days I could do about 30 trees a day, the worst day`s were about 23 trees. In the end I got an average wage of 130-140 $ a day which is actually about 65 to 70 € in 8 hours. This is about 3 to 4 $ above the New Zealand minimum wage of 15 $ per hour which is one of the lowest in the top 30 industrialised countrys. A lot of young New Zealanders go abroad for working, especially to Australia.

I already worked in the last 4 weeks and do another two weeks before I go on my trip again.

Two days ago I was stung by a  wasp and my right hand is swollen to it`s double size and feels like a ball on my arm.

On the weekend two weeks before I did a nice cycling tour with Drew (Canada/Banff) and Hendrik (Germany/Osnabrück) through 4 vineyards and one olive farm where we tasted a lot of nice and awardwinning wine. The area of central Otago is the most southern wine growing region in the world and the grow excellent pinot noir and pinot griss. Some vineyards also grow cabernet sauvignon and gewürztraminer.
We also had a nice, but expensive lunch at a winery.

So now the pictures, enjoy them....
